Two felted Purses
FELTED PURSE WITH SLANTING SIDES

Width at lower edge: approx. 44 cm [17.25"]

Materials: ALASKA, 100% pure new wool, 50 g/75 m./82 yards 150 gr nr 01 white and use: SYMPHONY 65% merino wool, 35% nylon, 50 g./70 m./76 yards
50 gr nr 01 natural and use: COTTON-VISCOSE, 54% Egyptian cotton, 46% viscose, 50 g./110 m./120 yards leftover nr 01 white DROPS 5.5 mm [US 9] circular needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge. DROPS  4.5 mm [US G] crochet hook, or size needed to obtain correct gauge.

DROPS 5.5 mm [US 9] circular needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge.
DROPS 4.5 mm "US G] crochet hook, or size needed to obtain correct gauge.
Gauge: Before felting: 16 sts x 20 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm.
Purse: Cast on 84 sts with Alaska, join and place a marker at the join. Knit stockinette st. When the piece measures 15 cm knit 4 rows with Symphony, change to Alaska and continue until the piece measures 26 cm, knit 4 rows with Symphony, then continue with Alaska until the piece measures 39 cm, bind off.
Assembly: Sew bottom inside of cast-on edge. Fold in 4 rows at top of purse to wrong side and sew in place.
Crocheted edge: Crochet 1 row of ch-loops in the bottom row of every Symphony-stripe as follows: 1 sc in first st, * ch 5, skip over 2 sts, 1 sc in the next st *, repeat from * - * and finish with ch 5 and 1 sl st in the first sc at beginning of row (= approx. 28 ch-loops).
Strap: Cast on 10 sts with Alaska and knit stockinette st until strap measures approx. 80 cm, bind off. Fold strap in half  lengthwise and sew along length. Sew strap to inside of purse at each side.
Felt the purse - see instructions under the other purse.
Gauge: Before felting: 16 sts x 20 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm.
Purse: Cast on 140 sts with Alaska; join and knit stockinette st, placing a marker at join and another after 70 sts.
When the piece measures 2 cm dec 1 st each side of each marker every 5 rows a total of 14 times = 84 sts.
When the piece measures 25 cm knit with Symphony to finished measurements.
When the piece measures 36 cm knit 4 rows garter st, bind off.
Assembly: Sew bottom inside of cast-on edge.
Crocheted edge: Crochet 3 rows of ch-loops in Symphony and Cotton Viscose as follows:
Large ch-loops: Crochet with Symphony in the transition between Alaska and Symphony - start at one side: 1 sc in 1st st, * ch 20, skip over 5 sts, 1 sc in the next st *, repeat from * - * and finish with ch 20 and 1 sl st in first sc at beginning of row (= approx. 14 ch-loops).
Small ch-loops: Crochet with Cotton Viscose in the same row as before: 1 sc in 1st st, * ch 5, skip over 2 sts, 1 sc in the next st *, repeat from * - * and finish with ch 5 and 1 sl st in first sc at beginning of row (= approx. 28 ch-loops).
Crochet 1 row of small ch-loops approx. 8 cm under the first ch-loop row.
Strap: Cast on 10 sts with Alaska and knit stockinette st until strap measures approx. 88 cm, bind off. Fold strap in half lengthwise and sew along the length. Sew strap to inside of each side on the purse.
Felting: Put the purse in the washing machine in warm water with a small amount of detergent. Run on regular cycle.
When cycle is complete form the purse to the measurements shown and then let dry.
In the future, wash the purse as you would any wool garment.
